How do I get to Royal Lytham & St Annes?
The closest station is St Annes-on-Sea on the Northern Rail line — about 20 minutes walk to the course. Trains run from Blackpool South and Preston. From London, travel to Preston via Avanti West Coast then change for the Blackpool South line. Driving? Postcode FY8 3LQ — there's park-and-ride from nearby car parks but spaces are limited, especially at the weekend.
Is there parking on site?
On-site parking is very limited and pre-bookable only. Most spectators use official park-and-ride facilities signposted around St Annes and Lytham. Book early — Sunday parking fills up fast.
What's the dress code?
No formal dress code for general grounds admission — smart casual is perfectly fine. Sensible footwear is strongly recommended; links turf can be uneven and the Lancashire weather can turn. If you're in a hospitality suite or the clubhouse, smart casual at minimum.
What can I bring into the grounds?
Folding chairs and small bags are generally permitted. Large bags, umbrellas with points, drones, and tripods are not allowed. Periscopes are fine. Check the R&A's official spectator guide for the full list before you pack.
Where's the best spot to watch on the course?
The par-4 18th hole is the classic finishing drama — get there early on Sunday for a grandstand seat. The 1st tee is brilliant for atmosphere at the start of a round. The back nine at Lytham is notoriously tough, so positions around 15–17 often see real swings in the leaderboard.
Any good pubs nearby?
The Trawl Boat Inn and The Clifton Arms in Lytham are both great post-round options. Lytham itself is a lovely town — plenty of bars and restaurants on Clifton Street. St Annes has good spots too. Book ahead on Sunday evening — the whole town fills up.
