FAQs

How do I get to the Duke of York's Theatre?

The easiest way is Leicester Square tube (Northern and Piccadilly lines) — it's about a 5-minute walk down St Martin's Lane. Charing Cross mainline station is also very close if you're coming in from Kent or Sussex. Buses 24, 29, and 176 all stop nearby on Charing Cross Road.

Is there parking nearby?

Central London parking is pricey and scarce — public transport is really the way to go. If you must drive, the nearest NCP is on Upper St Martin's Lane. Congestion charge applies Monday–Friday until 6pm, so evening shows are fine by car. Cycling? There are Santander Cycle docks on William IV Street, just around the corner.

Where should I eat or drink before the show?

St Martin's Lane and the surrounding Covent Garden streets are full of great options. J. Sheekey is a stone's throw away for a special occasion. The Ivy on West Street is nearby and iconic. For something more relaxed, try The Marquess of Anglesey pub in Covent Garden or grab a bite at the Covent Garden Market. The Duke of York's itself has a bar that opens pre-show.

What time do doors open?

The theatre bar typically opens around 45 minutes before curtain. Most evening performances start at 7:30pm; Saturday matinees are usually at 2:30pm. Check your specific ticket for the exact time, and aim to be in your seat 10 minutes before curtain — Arcadia starts with no preamble.

Is there a dress code?

No formal dress code — this is West End theatre, not the opera house. Most people dress smart casual for evening shows, but you'll see everything from jeans to cocktail dresses. Just be comfortable and enjoy the play.

What's the best seat in the house?

The Duke of York's is a beautifully intimate Victorian theatre — honestly very few bad seats. The Stalls rows D–K are considered the sweet spot: close enough to feel the performances, far enough back to take in the full stage picture. The Dress Circle has a lovely elevated view. Upper Circle is great value and still very close to the action given the theatre's compact size.
