FAQs

How do I get to Chatsworth House?

By car it's just off the B6012 between Bakewell and Baslow — postcode DE45 1PP for your sat nav. The nearest train station is Chesterfield (about 30 mins away), and there are usually local bus services running during the fair. Parking on site is available but fills quickly on Saturday — arrive early or use overflow car parks.

Is admission to the Plant Fair included with my Chatsworth ticket?

Yes — the Garden & Plant Fair runs within the Chatsworth grounds, so your standard garden or house-and-garden admission covers entry. There's no separate fair ticket to buy on top. Annual members also get in as normal with their membership card.

What's the best day to go?

Friday is brilliant if you want first choice of rare and specialist plants — the best stock gets snapped up early. Saturday is the busiest and most atmospheric, with the full programme of talks and demonstrations. Sunday is great for a more relaxed visit and traders often reduce prices to avoid transporting stock home.

What kind of nurseries and traders come?

A really good mix — specialist hardy plant nurseries, unusual perennials, alpines, shrubs, kitchen garden suppliers, garden antiques and tools, and artisan garden products. Many are small independent growers you won't find at a garden centre. It's genuinely one of the best plant fairs in the country.

Are there talks and demonstrations?

Yes — there's usually a programme of horticultural talks, planting demonstrations, and garden design sessions running across the weekend. Check the Chatsworth website for the full programme closer to the event, as speakers are confirmed nearer the date.

Is there food and drink on site?

Chatsworth has several cafés and restaurants within the estate, and there are usually additional food and drink traders at the fair itself. The farmyard café is a favourite for families. There's plenty of picnic space on the grounds too — it's a wonderful setting for lunch in the sun.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs on leads are welcome in the Chatsworth gardens and the fair grounds. They're not permitted inside the house itself. Always worth checking the Chatsworth website for any updates to their pet policy before you travel.
