FAQs
How do I get to Cowdray Park?
By train, take South Western Railway from London Waterloo to Haslemere (about 55 minutes), then a taxi or pre-booked car for the 15-minute drive to Cowdray Park in Midhurst. Driving is also popular — there's on-site parking in the fields, just follow the signs. Budget extra time on match days as the lanes get busy.
Is there parking on site?
Yes, there's ample on-site parking in the grass fields around The Lawns grounds. It's included with general admission. Arrive early on busy quarter-final days to get a good spot close to the ground.
What's the dress code?
Smart casual is the norm — think summer garden party. Linen, chinos, sundresses, and fascinators are all very welcome. The Hospitality Village and Grandstand tend to be a little smarter. Heels are brave on grass; wedges or block heels work much better!
What time do the matches start?
Gates typically open from around 10am. Quarter-final chukkas usually begin mid-morning, with multiple matches across the day. Check the Cowdray Polo Club website for the exact draw and match times closer to the date.
What's divot stomping and when does it happen?
At half-time, spectators are invited onto the pitch to tread back the divots — clumps of turf kicked up by the ponies. It's one of polo's great traditions, a brilliant excuse to get onto the ground, and surprisingly therapeutic. Don't miss it!
Are there food and drink options on site?
Plenty. There are bars and food stalls throughout The Lawns, plus the St. Regis Hospitality Marquee for premium guests. Pimm's, rosé, and champagne flow freely. You can also bring a picnic — a rug on the lawns is half the fun.
Can I bring children?
Absolutely — polo is a very family-friendly day out. Under-16s often get reduced or free entry; check the official Cowdray Polo Club site for the latest pricing. The open grounds and excitement of the horses make it a memorable day for kids.
