FAQs

How do I get to the National Theatre?

The easiest way is Waterloo station — it's about a 10-minute walk along the South Bank. Buses 1, 4, 26, 68, 76, 168, 172 and 176 all stop nearby. If you're coming by Tube, Waterloo serves the Bakerloo, Jubilee, Northern and Waterloo & City lines.

Is there parking near the National Theatre?

Street parking on the South Bank is limited and pricey in the evening. The nearest NCP is on Upper Ground (SE1). Honestly, the Tube or a short walk from Waterloo is your best bet — it's a lovely riverside stroll too.

What time do doors open?

The National Theatre's foyers open roughly 45 minutes before curtain-up. Evening performances typically start at 7:15pm or 7:30pm; matinees at 2pm. Check your ticket for the exact time.

What are the best bars and restaurants nearby?

The National Theatre has its own excellent bars and the Espresso Bar on Level 1 — great for a pre-show drink. Outside, try The Understudy (on the riverside terrace), the Tate Modern café a short walk west, or head to The Cut in Waterloo for loads of options including the ever-popular Wine Pantry.

Is there a dress code?

Absolutely none! The National is wonderfully relaxed — come in jeans and a jacket or go full glam. It's all about the show. Some people do dress up for opening nights and press nights, but there's no requirement whatsoever.

Can I exchange or refund my ticket if I can't make it?

The National Theatre does offer an exchange scheme for tickets booked directly with them. If you've sourced your ticket through Brockit's exchange, the seller will have listed at or below face value — reach out via WhatsApp and we'll do our best to help find a new buyer or sort a swap.
